Land Acknowledgment
We want to call attention to the original inhabitants of the lands on which we live and work, who have cared for it, and the waters that sustain us. This includes the Kumeyaay, Tongva, and Meskwaki nations, as well as the Sauk and Ioway Peoples. This text was imagined, edited, and compiled while on these unceded ancestral territories, which remain home to Indigenous peoples today.
We further recognize that settler colonialism is ongoing, and we acknowledge the reproductive brutalities it visits upon Indigenous women and girls and trans, gender nonconforming, and Two-Spirit individuals in particular – as well as the generational impact and trauma acts of violence have on families and communities. Finally, we recognize that land acknowledgments can be performative without concrete action, and we pledge to donate the royalties from this volume to Indigenous-led organizations supporting reproductive justice. If you are able, we urge you to offer your own time or resources.
